Preventive Treatment

Kids

More than 80% of orthodontic treatments begin during or after the transition from baby teeth to permanent teeth.
Most children are between 10 and 12 years old when treatment starts. However, in cases of severe dental or jaw misalignments caused by habitual behaviors (such as thumb sucking) or genetic factors, an early treatment phase can begin between the ages of 6 and 10.

Examples of conditions treated in this early phase include:

  • severe overbites or underbites

  • crossbites

  • narrow jaws

  • or crowding (when teeth appear too large for the jaw)

Such treatments usually last between 12 and 18 months. Afterward, patients are seen for follow-up visits every six months until the remaining baby teeth have been fully replaced by permanent ones.
