Orthodontics
with Surgery
In adult patients with significant jaw discrepancies—such as severe overbites or underbites (prognathism)—orthodontic treatment alone is often insufficient, as no further jaw growth can be stimulated.
In such complex cases, a combined orthodontic-surgical approach may be necessary. This interdisciplinary collaboration between the orthodontist and oral and maxillofacial surgeon enables a comprehensive correction of both dental and skeletal misalignments to achieve optimal functional and aesthetic results.
Treatment typically begins with fixed braces or clear aligners to align the teeth over a period of approximately 12 to 15 months. This is followed by a surgical procedure performed by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon to correct the jaw position. Once the bite and tooth alignment are optimized post-surgery, the braces are removed, and standard retention measures are implemented to maintain the results.
